Deportivo Alavés

Deportivo Alavés are a rags to riches and then back to rags story.

The club has spent most of its history in the complete anonimity of the lower divisions, often in danger of disappearing completely.

In 1995, Alavés gained promotion to Segunda and three years later the modest Basque club were in Primera, where - apart from the 2003-04 campaign - they stayed for a decade.

What's even more incredible is that Alavés' decade in Primera was full of success and in 2001, they reached the final of the UEFA Cup only losing 5-4 to Liverpool after an incredible game.

They were finally relegated again in 2006 and this time it looks like they'll be in Segunda for a while. Let's hope they don't drop down any further!
