CA Osasuna

The Kings of El Reyno de Navarra

CA Osasuna narrowly escaped relegation in 2008-09 and will be hoping to do better this season.

Osasuna are based in Pamplona - home of the famous San Fermin bull run - and if anyone is capable of taking the bull by the horns, it's coach Jose Antonio Camacho.

The former Real Madrid and Spain coach has few star players to work with but with a forward line made up of the underrated Javier Portillo and Uruguayan Walter Pandiani, Los Rojillos are capable of some good football.

Osasuna is also one of the few Spanish clubs owned by its fans and is much more financially stable that many of its privately-owned rivals - perhaps this is because the word 'Osasuna' means health in Basque.

Finishing in the top half of would be a good season for Osasuna and repeating their fourth place in La Liga in 2005-06 and consequent Champions League participation would be a dream come true.

Watching CA Osasuna

The 20,000-capacity Reyno de Navarra - formerly called El Sadar - was opened in 1967 and is one of Spain's legendary stadiums.

For most games, getting seats on match day is generally fairly easy - the obvious exceptions are the games against FC Barcelona and Real Madrid but other clubs from Northern Spain - particularly Athletic Club or Real Zaragoza - draw big crowds on a good day.

El Reyno de Navarra is on the outskirts of Pamplona close to Navarra Public University. It's well-served by public transport and has good parking facilities.

Pamplona doesn't have its own international airport. The closest major airport is Bilbao but you should also check flights to Zaragoza or Vitoria. You can access info on all the main Spanish airports by clicking on the Bilbao links below or from the Airports Guide main page.

Pamplona is a lovely city with a long history as capital of the Kingdom of Navarre. As it's used to housing a massive influx of tourists for its San Fermin bull run in July, you should have no trouble finding excellent food and good places to stay.
