CD Tenerife 2009-10

Chicharreros at Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez!

After snatching the third spot in Segunda in 2009-10, CD Tenerife are back in Primera effectively for the first time in a decade.

Coach José Luis Oltra will depend on the core of the squad that got promoted so it's difficult to predict how they will fare.

But expectations will be high as Tenerife's fabulous period in the early Nineties is vividly recalled.

With 29 goals in Segunda last season it will be interesting to see how forward Nino copes with Primera Liga defenders.

Last season Tenerife scored a lot of goals but they also let in too many.

If they start confidently, Tenerife could well cause a few upsets in 2009-10.

Watching CD Tenerife

As the 24,000-capacity Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium is a lovely ground set in beautiful surroundings, it's not surprising that the atmosphere's good.

Tickets for most games should be reasonably easy to come by apart from the visits of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona - local rivals Las Palmas are still in Segunda for 2009-10.

Heliodoro Rodríguez López is located a short walk from the seafront. You can also get a bus from the centre and get off at Avenida de San Sebastián.

Your best foreign travel option is to fly to Tenerife Norte Airport which is very close to Santa Cruz. Although at the other end of the island, Tenerife Sur Airport is only half an hour's drive away.

Santa Cruz is the capital of Tenerife and hardly needs an introduction. It's a lovely city with a happy holiday atmosphere all year round. As it's geared towards tourism, you'll find excellent food and good places to stay.
