Dani Alves

Defence, Attack And Mucha Samba

An overview of Dani Alves after FC Barcelona's triple championship winning 2008-09 season.

If he were a mathematical operation, without doubt Dani Alves would be Multiplication.

Just as he does on the pitch, Alves has multiplied his value in the marketplace by 60 since he arrived at Sevilla FC in 2003.

He was just 20 years old and had been signed from his hometown club in Brazil - Bahia.

Alves was discovered by Monchi - the talentspotter that makes Arsene Wenger look like an amateur - and Sevilla paid just half a million euros for him.

He was transferred to Barcelona for 60 times that price - €59.5 million - and thanks to his great performances in his first year, Barcelona have just paud Sevilla another €2.25 million.

Along with Leo Messi, according to the always prudent Pep Guardiola, he forms part of the 'best right wing in the world'.

The two of them make up the best investment in football - remember that Messi signed his first contract with Barça on a napkin in a bar.

When he signed for Barça, Alves was already a big name - he's the third most expensive signing in the history of the club after Marc Overmars and Javier Saviola.

Although the Alves signing was heavily crticised at the time because of the cost - when compared with the other two players, Dani Alves can only be described as a bargain.
