Deportivo de la Coruña

SuperDepor!

For most of the 2008-09 season, it looked like Deportivo de la Coruña would be back in Europe for the first time in nearly a decade.

President Lendoiro and Coach Lotina will be disappointed with the seventh position that leaves Depor just outside European places.

But there's the core of a very strong side at Riazor and Valerón, Filipe Luis, Mista and most of the side will continue this season.

The Blues can be optimistic about 2009-10 but at the moment it's unlikely that they scale to the dizzy heights they reached in the Nineties.

That's when Depor were SuperDepor.

A steady Lendoiro guided a series of excellent coaches and built a great side.

SuperDepor got their just reward in 2000 when they joined the select group of clubs proclaimed Liga Champions.

Riazor would be happy to see its boys in Europe again so expect a competitive Depor for 2009-10.

Watching Games At Riazor

The 34,000-capacity Riazor Stadium is a complete delight - it's right next to the city beach of the same name and is well-served by local transport.

For most games, getting seats on match day is generally fairly easy - the obvious exceptions are FC Barcelona and Real Madrid games as - with Celta de Vigo currently in Segunda - Galician derbies are a thing of the past.

A Coruña is a port city that has improved a lot in the last few years, so it's a good place to stay. Equally, you could hire a car and stay on the Galician coast - the impressive resorts of the Costa de la Muerte are very close.

Getting to the region is a bit of a problem as there are limited flights to La Coruña Airport, perhaps a better option would be to fly to nearby Santiago de la Compostela or Vigo - our flights page is configured for all Galician airports.

Don't forget to take a jacket - Galicia is NOT Sunny Spain!
