Spain Airport Information
All Spanish airports are owned and managed by the Spanish state-owned company AENA.
The letters AENA stand for Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea - literally Spanish Airports and Air Navigation - and the company also controls all
flights to Spain through SACTA - its Air Traffic Control system.
Currently AENA is implementing a major airport expansion and modernisation programme that initially focuses on Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona, Alicante and
Málaga airports.
Other airports on the network will be expanded to accommodate the increasing air traffic demand, meaning that more flights to Spain will be possible in the
coming years. Around 200 million passengers use the AENA airports in Spain every year.
AENA is already the biggest airport operator in the world, with participation in airports in Mexico, the USA, Cuba, Colombia, Bolivia, Sweden and the UK.
