RCD Mallorca

The Clockwork Ensaimada!

A solid ninth place in 2008-09 means that RCD Mallorca will be starting the new season in an optimistic mood.

Real Mallorca have been a regular in Primera for over a decade now and a visit to the Ono Estadi is certainly no push over - even for the big sides.

Gregorio Manzano is an experienced coach accustomed to getting the best out of workmanlike sides.

With players like Aouate, Webo and Nunes, they present a very well-organised proposition for 2009-10.

It will be difficult to repeat the success of 1999 and 2001 when they finished third in the Primera Liga or 2003 when they won la Copa del Rey..

Nicknamed the Ensaimada Mecánica after the typical Mallorcan pastry and tipping a wink towards the Naraja Mecánica - the famous Dutch Clockwork Orange of the Seventies - Real Mallorca are establishing a reputation for a top-notch location and first-class football.

Watching RCD Mallorca

The 23,000-capacity Ono Estadi - previously Son Moix - is a nice enough stadium. It's located about three kilometres outside the city centre on the Can Valero Business Park and is well-served by public transport. If you're coming by car, you should be able to find a parking space within walking distance of the stadium.

For most games, getting seats on match day is generally fairly easy - the obvious exceptions are the games against FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Barça game is particularly difficult to get tickets for as a lot of Mallorcans are Barcelona supporters.

As Palma is the main town on the island, the city is geared towards tourism and visiting fans will have no problem finding places to eat and stay.

Palma de Mallorca Airport is one of the busiest in Spain and is served by the low cost airlines, so getting there is also easy and generally inexpensive.
