Real Valladolid CF 2009-10
Pucela in the Nuevo Jose Zorilla!
|
Despite having a midfielder called Pele, the Real Valladolid squad needs a bit more depth.
For the last two seasons, the Castilian side have played well up to Christmas but lost the plot in the second half of the season.
In 2008-09, Los Pucelanos finished fifteenth just off the relegation positions.
Coach Jose Luis Mendilibar brought Valladolid up to Primera after breaking records in Segunda in 2007 but the Castilians look uncomfortable in the top tier.
With little money to invest, the Basque coach relies on a veteran squad.
Valladolid will need some new blood if they want to make their mark on the Primera Liga in 2009-10.

Watching Real Valladolid
Named after a Castilian poet, the 26,500-capacity Nuevo Jose Zorilla Stadium was opened in 1982 and combines modern amenities with an old style atmosphere.
For most games, getting seats on match day is generally fairly easy - the obvious exceptions are the games against
FC Barcelona and Real Madrid but other clubs from Northern Spain - particularly Athletic Club or Racing de Santander - draw big crowds on a good day.
The Jose Zorilla. It's well-served by public transport and has good parking facilities.
Valladolid Airport is not the easiest airport to get to in Spain but there are direct flights from London-Stansted. As Valladolid is equidistant
from Madrid and the Northern Coast, if you've got a few days you might want to fly to Madrid-Barajas, Bilbao or Santander.
Valladolid is a charming university city - a bastion of historic Old Castile. Castilian food is joyously hearty and you should have no trouble finding
excellent places to stay.
