Real Zaragoza 2009-10

Maños at La Romareda!

After being relegate 2008, Real Zaragoza finished second in Segunda last season and are back where they belong - in Primera!

Names like Ayala, Ewerthon and Pavón will be familiar from before relegation but many of the younger players are as yet untested in top-flight Spanish football.

Zaragoza are big club so hopefully coach Marcelino García Toral will have some new players to call on.

Luckily, Zaragoza have got Ewerthon up front - he scored 28 goals in Segunda last season and has plenty of experience of playing in Primera.

A reptition of their third place in 2007 is a lot to ask - especially after a season in Segunda.

Even though, they won't finish in European positions, Zaragoza always put up a good fight.

Watching Real Zaragoza

Opened in 1957, 35,000-capacity La Romareda is one of Spain's legendary stadiums and has a classic atmosphere.

Tickets for most games should be reasonably easy to come by apart from the visits of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

La Romareda Stadium is within walking distance of the city centre just off Via Ibérica near to Parque Primo de Rivera. It's also well-served by public transport. Zaragoza Airport is reasonably well-served by a number of international carriers but for low-cost deals you might find it cheaper to fly to Barcelona - or even Bilbao - and hire a car. You can access other airports from the links below.

Zaragoza is a marvellous historic city within easy reach of the Aragonese Pyrenees. Although not really on the international tourist map, it receives a lot of visitors from other parts of Spain, so you'll find excellent food and plenty of good places to stay.
