Recreativo de Huelva
|
Founded in 1889, Recreativo de Huelva are the oldest club in Spain. Their nickname is 'El Decano del Fútbol Español' - which loosely translates as
'The Grand Old Man of Spanish Football'.
Unfortunately, unlike the major Spanish cities, the wastes of Huelva aren't ideal for creating a strong fan base and Recreativo have spent most of their
long history in the lower divisions.

They came up to Primera in 2003 but were soon back in Segunda. However, they were back in 2006 and have held out for the last few seasons.
They generally inhabit the lower half of the table and just staying up is a big success for Recre - but let's hope they do. Somehow, it satisfies my sense of history to have the oldest
club in Spain in the First Division.
