Thierry Henry

The Return Of The King

An overview of Thierry Henry after FC Barcelona's triple championship winning 2008-09 season.

On a statistical level, Thierry Henry's 2008-09 season with Barça can be judged as 'Extremely Good'.

If he'd put away that goal in the Rome Final, it would have been 'Excellent' - but Van der Saar managed to block his great chance at the beginning of the second half.

Titi inevitably placed the ball using the inside of his right foot with just a touch of effect and Van der Saar parried the shot.

What can you do? An artist is an artist and Thierry Henry doesn't paint with a fat brush!

But this season, Henry has been less irritable and egotistical and more participative and generous than ever - this means he's a better player.

In La Liga, Henry has scored the more than acceptable sum of 19 goals - 7 more than in his first season, without being the penalty taker and also having missed the last four games through injury.

This won him a deserved seventh place in the Spain's Pichichi top goalscorer competition.

In the Copa del Rey, he only played one game - the first leg of the semi-final against Mallorca - but still managed to leave his mark by scoring one with his head.

In the Champions League, apart from bagging one in the preliminaries against Wisla, he put away five more - including three in Barça's first life or death situation against Olympique Lyonaisse.

26 goal in total - many of them decisive - like the two he scored in the now legendary 2-6 in the Bernabéu, for example.

And don't forget six assists in La Liga and two more in the Champions League.

All in all, the stats of a world crack . . . and a perfect guarantee that Guardiola and the fans will continue placing their trust in him next season.

If only he'd scored in the final . . .
