UD Salamanca

UD Salamanca were originally founded by a group of Irish immigrants, I believe, and have spent periods in all four divisions from Primera to Tercera.

Their last period in the top tier of Spanish football was for two seasons between 1997 and 1999, when they took quite a few important scalps, including two victories against the Barcelona side led by Rivaldo, which went on to win La Liga in 1998.

Salamanca were back in Segunda a season later and dropped down as far as Segunda B for 2005-06.

They're now pretty solidly back in Segunda and if I remember rightly were very well-positioned for the first half of the season. As 2008-09 moves into its final straight, though, they've dropped out of the promotion running.
