All About Valencia Province

Where To Stay and What To See And Do

What can you say about vibrant Valencia Province?

The region is dominated by its truly brilliant capital city, it offers a great coastline and some fantastic resorts and its mountainous hinterland is a magnet for nature lovers.

The province's slogan is 'The Valencia Experience' and with the Valencians' love of fiestas that's precisely what you get. The city of Valencia itself is just a terrific city.

Great food, great fiestas, full of a long and bloody history, Spain's third city has a lot to offer. Commerce, culture, cinema, theatre, music, museums - Valencia has everything.

And if you're looking for a beach holiday, you won't be disappointed.

Just north of the city, a well-developed section of the coast begins at Malvarrosa Beach and and continues up to Sagunto, which is famous for its impressive Roman ruins.

In my opinion, however, the countryside south of the city is much nicer and the first stop is the Lake of Albufera - a freshwater lake separated from the Mediterranean by dunes and pinewood forests.

After the slightly over-developed coast of Sueca and Cullera, you reach the beaches of Safor and the delightful towns of Gandia, Oliva and Denia.

Whilst the coastline and the city of Valencia are perfect destinations, it's also worth exploring inland.

Cheste and Xātiba are two of my favourite towns, and if you're in the province at the end of August, you must witness the Festa de la Tomatina - the tomato-throwing festival at Buņol.
